Let’s face it! When it comes to warming up and stretching in <a href=”http://www.soccerdrillstips.com/soccer_practice.html”> Soccer practice </a> both coaches and players tend to ignore both. You must understand that a practice session should aid the player’s total professional growth. Daily practicing soccer training drills is not sufficient.
Strength, elasticity, and patience are necessary in players to stay active in the game. So start every practice session with warm up followed by stretching. After that, get on to coaching different techniques, games, and drills. Towards the end, the kids can be made to learn some game tactics.
Warm up and stretching are done with two main intentions. They prepare the body for a strenuous workout and at the end of the session, stretching relaxes the tired muscles. Some drills are there that can be used as effective warm up and stretching exercises.
1. Running in Formation: This warm up activity requires all team members to run, two alongside each other, staying in harmony. This is a great team activity that develops stamina as well as instills team spirit among the kids. Besides, the opposition gets a signal that it’s going to be difficult for them to survive against you when they see you approaching them in a defined shape of people.
2. Follow the leader: This is one of those warm up soccer drills that develop the player’s ability to follow orders and to dribble with their heads up, watching other players. In this activity, every player should have a ball. Ask a senior player or assistant coach to take the lead with the ball and others must follow him. This player should try a lot of new things which should be imitated in turn by the rest of the pack.
3. Reaching out: In soccer practice, this is a popular and very effective stretching exercise. Ask the players to stretch their legs apart and direct them left, right, and center. Then instruct them to touch their toes on all sides. To begin with, this may seem like a tough exercise but they will adjust to it soon.
4. Lift legs up behind: This exercise makes the thighs get stretched. In a standing position, the kids must fold their thigh and then hold it there for some time. The repeat the exercise with the left leg. It is important that the kids do not look below else they will lose their focus and balance.
Every practice must have an objective. Only a couple of skills should be worked on per week. Research on methods that help players improve their skills and also help them warm up and stretch.
Fitness is the key. Understand that the team that is not fit and gets tired loses. Make sure that your fitness activities are drills that include soccer ball as much as possible. Do not let the kids run around the field without a ball, ask them to dribble with it.
