Speed Training, A Must For All Players
Speed is the ability to move very fast in very little time. It is the primary requirement in most athletic sports. It could involve human action or some modes of locomotion like cycling, skating, motor cars racing and others. Not only does speed involve moving fast in one direction but it also requires the ability to change direction and accelerate again. Therefore, an essential aspect of any kind of training for sports is speed training. Besides, one needs to have the necessary endurance to continue at the fast pace after reaching that required run rate. Building momentum is another important aspect of this. For most high speed sports, athletes must maintain a very high velocity for 5 seconds or longer. Moreover, the rest period between the bouts of high speed is very less. With the high demands this kind of physical activity places on the body, it becomes essential that the sportsmen train for fitness very extensively. Speed training ensures that because the emphasis is on the muscles that contract and twitch when the body goes in the state of increased velocity. To become a fast athlete, one needs to have very high capacity for exerting large force in a short time frame. This kind of power comes from dedicated speed training sessions. The athlete who can apply the maximum force in the minimal time becomes the most powerful athlete. This quality comes from a lot of practice and hard work. Speed training aimed at endurance or maintenance of momentum is a required element of fitness. An athlete who can stay strong even after various bouts of high energy work, becomes very successful in reaching his athletic goals. Agility or the ability to speed up, stop, change direction and then accelerate again is another element of successful sports performance which must be built with practice.
